A New Upfront Solar Savings Option After the Tax Credit

Education

The video explains a program that can provide eligible homeowners with upfront project savings even after the individual residential credit changed. Rather than waiting for tax filing, the value is reflected through a different ownership and incentive structure that must be reviewed carefully.

The central idea is that a qualified third party may use a separate incentive and pass value into the homeowner's offer. That can make savings available earlier and may help people who could not fully use a personal tax credit.

It is still essential to understand the agreement. Ask who owns the system during the initial term, what maintenance is included, when a buyout is available, how the price is calculated, and whether the program is available at your property.

What This Video Covers

  • Why the offer is not the same as claiming a personal credit
  • How upfront value may differ from a refund at tax time
  • What ownership and buyout questions to ask before signing

Mitch: Remember that 30% solar tax credit homeowners used to have? Well, we're bringing it back and now's your shot. Here's the thing most people don't know. As of 2026, the standard residential tax credit actually expired for individual homeowners.

So, you can't claim that 30% credit anymore. You have to pay the full price of your solar system. But Big Dog Solar found an alternative. Instead of you claiming credit, a third party entity claims a different credit on their end and passes all that value directly to you as an instant discount.

So, you're getting the benefit of the tax credit right when you get installed, not months later when you file taxes. And honestly, this might actually be better than the old system. Before 2026, about 40% of Americans got zero benefit from the solar that they installed through the tax credit because they didn't have enough tax liability. They install solar and wait till April and realize they couldn't get all the credit.

With this new structure through Big Dog Solar, that problem disappears. You get the savings up front, no matter your tax situation. The cost of your system drops immediately and after a few years you have the option to buy the system outright. So if you've been putting off solar because you thought incentives were gone, they're not.

They're just behind a different door. And for most people, this way is actually way easier.
