Satisfied Big Dog Customer

Testimonials

In this Big Dog Solar customer testimonial, a homeowner explains why solar made financial sense for his family and how the installation has worked out since making the switch.

With six kids at home and substantial electricity usage, the homeowner was concerned about reaching higher utility rate tiers. After looking at the numbers, he determined that producing some of his own electricity with solar could help reduce his exposure to those higher electricity costs.

The Big Dog Solar installation itself moved quickly, with the crew completing the work in about a week. After installation, the homeowner mainly had to wait for the required inspection before moving forward.

After several months with solar, production has varied — some months the system has generated more electricity than the family needed, while other months it produced less. For this homeowner, completely eliminating the electric bill wasn't the primary goal. Instead, the goal was to reduce overall electricity costs and avoid consistently paying higher utility rates.

The panels were also positioned toward the back of the property, making the installation less noticeable from neighboring homes. The homeowner says solar appears to be catching on throughout the area and finishes the testimonial by saying he has been very pleased with Big Dog Solar.

Once we go over about 700 kilowatt-hours, Rocky Mountain Power starts charging a lot more at that point. So I started doing the math and figuring everything out, and for us, it made a lot of sense to do this.

They showed up and got it done within about a week. It didn't take very long. We mainly just had to wait for the inspector to show up.

We have six kids, so we wanted to save some money.

We've had the system for a few months now. Some months we've produced more than we needed, and a few months we didn't produce enough.

We don't care if we still have a little bit of an electric bill. We just want to make sure we're not always paying those higher bills.

I think solar is catching on in the area. A lot of people have started getting solar and telling their neighbors about it. I think most houses will probably have solar in about ten years.

New construction is moving toward more energy-efficient homes too, so I think we're going to continue seeing that trend here as well.

The panels are farther back on the shop, so you don't even notice them. Our neighbors have said, “We didn't even know you had solar panels.”

They blend in pretty well.

Again, I've been very pleased with Big Dog.
